Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna to President of Singapore: We are jointly standing up for the rules-based international order

On the 26th of June, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna hosted President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who is on a visit to Estonia, and held a formal dinner where the agenda mainly covered bilateral relations and the role of small states in global politics.

At the dinner meeting, Foreign Minister Tsahkna and President Shanmugaratnam reaffirmed the good relations of the two countries and the wish to boost cooperation, including in economic, cyber and digital affairs. “Just like Estonia, Singapore has a strong digital society, and based on this, we can do great things and learn from each other. Thanks to various digital solutions, we can bring each other closer despite the geographical distance between us, and this way, help reinforce our economic cooperation,” Tsahkna said.

Speaking about the situation in Ukraine, the foreign minister said that as small states, we have an important role in jointly reinforcing multilateralism and defending the rules-based order. “We can see on a daily basis how Russia is continuing its destruction against its neighbour and destroying the international order we have promised to uphold as members of the UN. This is why we must do everything we can to stop Russia’s war machine,” Tsahkna said.
